Branch motion- Australian Aid
We note that the Australian Government and Federal Labor are already committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a critical framework to reducing extreme poverty.
Labor has a proud tradition of honouring Australia’s international commitments and playing its part in reducing global poverty, tackling rising global inequality and protecting human rights.
We condemn the Federal Coalition for their savage cuts to Australian aid, taking our national contribution to historic lows at a time of extreme global need.
Labor For Aid and the rank and file members of this branch call on the ALP to:
- Commit to the principle that we should be moving towards 0.7% of our Gross National Income (GNI) on aid;
- Increase aid as a percentage of GNI every year that we are in office starting with our first budget;
- Make advancing the SDGs, including reducing global poverty, the core purpose of the aid program.
